RankDeck guide
How to check your App Store keyword ranking
To check an App Store keyword ranking, search the phrase in the storefront you care about and find your app's position in the results. On an iPhone that works for one phrase in your own country. It stops working when you need ten phrases across five markets after every release.
Checking a ranking by hand
Open the App Store, search the exact phrase and count down until you reach your app. Note the date, because search results change. This is free and fine for a quick look, with three limits:
- Your device shows the storefront of your Apple Account. Seeing results in another country means changing your account region.
- Counting past the first twenty or so results is slow and easy to get wrong.
- Nothing is saved, so a comparison after a listing change relies on memory or screenshots.
Checking rankings with RankDeck
- Paste your App Store link or app ID. RankDeck does not need App Store Connect access.
- Type one phrase per line.
- Tick the storefronts you care about. All 175 App Store countries and regions are available.
- Press Check. RankDeck reads the current search results for each phrase and storefront and shows your position.
Open any cell to see the apps ranked for that phrase, with their names, subtitles and rating counts. That shows who you are competing with and whether the phrase describes the same job your app does.
What a rank tells you
A rank is your position in the results returned for that check, at that time, in that storefront. If your app is not found, it was not in the results RankDeck read. That does not prove the app is missing from the App Store. RankDeck records the result depth alongside every check so you can tell the difference.
Rankings move. Competing apps ship updates, ratings change and Apple adjusts search. Check at a similar time and compare saved history rather than a single reading.
Track a ranking over time
Save the phrase and storefront pairs you care about to your board. Run a check before a metadata change, then again after the new version is live. RankDeck keeps every check in a local database on your Mac, so you can see how each pair moved. A better rank is an observation, not proof the change caused it. Use App Analytics in App Store Connect to see whether impressions and downloads followed.
RankDeck by Notchbird costs $39 USD once, with updates included and activation on up to two Macs. It needs an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 14 or later. See the purchase details, the keyword research guide and the 14-day refund policy.
Common questions
Is there a free way to check App Store keyword rankings?
Yes. Search the phrase in the App Store and count down to your app. It only shows your own account's storefront and nothing is saved, so it suits a quick one-off check.
Do I need App Store Connect access to check rankings?
No. RankDeck reads public App Store search results. You only need your app's App Store link or ID.
How often should I check my rankings?
Before and after each metadata change is the most useful rhythm, plus a regular check for the phrases that matter most. Daily movement is common, so compare trends rather than single readings.
